Suleman Nyambui
The Athletics Tanzania (AT) has picked a provisional squad of 40 athletes to train in three different countries ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The games will be held from July to August in Glasgow, Scotland.

AT secretary general Suleiman Nyambui said yesterday the AT executive committee had also picked six coaches to accompany the runners.

Ten athletes will train in Ethiopia, 10 in Turkey while the other batch of 20 will drill in China, with each group accompanied by two trainers.

However, Nyambui did not either reveal the names of athletes or trainers, maintaining that their names will be known to the public at the point of departure.

Nyambui did not state when the squads will leave for their respective training countries, noting that their travelling arrangements were being handled by the Ministry of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports.

Athletes who will meet Games standards will be included in the Tanzania contingent that will travel to Glasgow, he said.

The Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) said that the Commonwealth Games Organizing Committee has set 36 places for Tanzanian athletes.

The athletes will be picked from swimming, cycling, boxing, athletics, weightlifting, paralympics and judo.

Nevertheless, swimming, judo and cycling have already revealed their athletes who are being prepared to participate in the Glasgow Games.
