TOC urges sports bodies to unveil Olympic credentials

Filbert Bayi / TOC General Secretary
Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) has called on national sports associations to submit details on their participation in the next year’s Olympics.

Sports associations have to submit the details, which include information on when the bodies will participate in the Olympic qualifiers.

The associations include Boxing Federation of Tanzania (BFT), Athletics Tanzania (AT), Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), National Netball Association (Chaneta), and Judo Association of Tanzania (JATA).

TOC secretary general, Filbert Bayi, disclosed the associations are required to present the details with a view to securing participation in the Olympic qualifiers on time.

Bayi  said failure to submit the details will render the associations unable to represent the country at the Olympics, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro.

“I urge the sports associations to act on the issue, there is little time left for securing participation in the Olympic qualifiers,” he said.

Bayi said that there are a few qualifying events for Olympics in the continent.

He noted that two Tanzanian athletes have, so far, qualified. The rest of the sports disciplines, he said, have yet to produce players that have qualified for the Olympics.
