Glasgow named as one of top 10 sporting cities in the world

Glasgow, the host city for the XX Commonwealth Games, has been named as one of the world’s top 10 sporting cities at the prestigious SportBusiness Ultimate Sports City 2012 Awards. Glasgow joins Melbourne and Manchester, two recent Commonwealth Games host cities to be named on the prestigious list.

Glasgow 2014 Chairman Lord Smith said:
“With the Commonwealth Games now just over two years away and a number of high-profile World and European championships coming to the city, the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee is delighted to see Glasgow named as one of the world’s top 10 global sporting cities.

“This major international accolade reinforces Glasgow’s appeal as a world-class sports event destination. We look forward to welcoming 71 nations and territories of the Commonwealth to Scotland in 2014 when 6,500 athletes and officials can experience for themselves an outstanding Games environment in one of the world’s greatest sporting cities.”
