They drew 3-3. photo /M ichael M atemanga   The Vodacom Premier League leadership changed hands again yesterday as Mbeya City forced Azam FC to a 3-3 draw while high-flying Young Africa routed JKT Oljoro 3-0. The results mean Yanga now top the league table with 28 points, one ahead of their closest challengers Azam and third-placed Mbeya City. Mbeya City and Azam tie on 27 points, but the ice-cream makers are ahead on goal difference. Azam had Mcha Khamis to thank for the hard-fought draw as his sizzling shot six minutes to time rescued them from the jaws of defeat in a nail-biting encounter at Azam Complex.  Mbeya City, who are making their first appearance in the top flight league, seemed destined for a win until in t

I have a dream: That someday I will be able to build a Sports Village

Image
Nangwa Village located at the bottom of Mt Hanang, the 3rd tallest mountain in Tanzania is my proud home village. I ones dreamed of pulling efforts to set up a training center as a symbol of my solidarity, but could not get a hand from local government leaders to clear the way accordingly. This is how it would look and it would have produced future champions! Unfortunately present local government leaders don't see the future, 'we will pray that the time passes on quickly enough for them to end their terms so that the new futuristic machines can take charge as leaders of tomorrow! GOD BLESS TANZANIA.

REST IN PEACE JOY JOHNSON

Sports Spirit "Do Die" Joy Johnson, 86, the oldest woman to complete the New York City Marathon on Sunday, often said she wanted to die running. She lived only one day past the race. Johnson, of San Jose, Calif., had stumbled and hit her head on the road around the 20th mile, said her sister, Faith Anderson, 83, who accompanied Johnson to New York. Medics wanted to take Johnson to the hospital, but she insisted on continuing the race, Anderson said. Johnson finished in about eight hours, compared with less than five hours in the early 1990s, when she was at the peak of her marathon running. On Monday morning, after the two sisters returned from their annual post-marathon visit to the “Today” show crowd at Rockefeller Center, Johnson said she was tired and lay down on her bed at the Roosevelt Hotel in Manhattan. She didn't wake up. She was declared dead at Bellevue Hospital, Anderson said. "At least she was running, the way she wanted to go," sai

For the New York Marathon, a Triumphant Return

Image
PHOTO/The ING New York City Marathon-AP By Sara Germano The New York City Marathon returned to the five boroughs larger than ever on Sunday, a year after its cancellation in the wake of super storm Sandy and six months after the bombings at the Boston Marathon. For Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai, the race marked a different sort of return—to the winners' podium, following his victory at the 2011 edition of the race. The win, in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 24 seconds, made Mutai, 32, the first man to win consecutive New York City Marathons since John Kagwe of Kenya did it in 1997 and 1998. On a windy, overcast day, a record 50,740 runners started the 43rd edition of the race, further solidifying its rank as the largest marathon in the world. As of late Sunday, the race had proceeded without incident as runners continued to cross the finish line in Central Park. It was bolstered by extra security from the NYPD and limitations on backpacks and other attire for participants
