Manny Pacquiao Wins Philippines Senate Seat, Wants to Fight at 2016 Rio Olympics

Boxer Manny Pacquiao Manny Pacquiao's political career received a boost Thursday as he earned a seat in the  Philippines Senate, but  Pac -Man may not be ready to put his old career behind him just yet. After the 37-year-old eight-division world champion finished seventh among 12 newly elected senators with over 16 million votes, he expressed interest in representing the Philippines at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , according to the Associated Press. "I need to ask if the Filipino people will allow me to participate in the Olympics." Pacquiao retired from boxing following his unanimous-decision victory over Timothy Bradley in April 2016, but with professionals now being permitted to qualify for boxing in the Olympics, his hiatus from the ring could be brief. Boxing trainer Freddie Roach added this, per the Associated Press (ESPN .COM):  "He asked me if I would train him if they let pros in the Olympics. I said of course I will.&q

Surviving Bowerman sub-4 milers returning to the UO

Eleven Ducks who ran under legendary coach Bill Bowerman broke the hallowed sub-four-minute-mile barrier, and on May 27 the ten surviving members of the group are returning to the University of Oregon for a special event, dubbed the “Sub 4 Reunion.” Organized as a fundraiser by the Oregon Track Club — founded by Bowerman himself more than 50 years ago — the public is invited to meet the milers and hear their stories. The reunion, held at the John E. Jaqua Center for Student Athletes, will feature a social hour,  panel discussion and question-and-answer session, and at the conclusion of the reunion attendees will head to Hayward Field for the 42nd running of the Prefontaine Classic. The sub-4 theme extends beyond the 10 honored guests, too. Tickets cost $25 for the public and $20 for OTC members, but if you’ve run a sub-4 mile it’s free.
