ANDREW SAMBU: One of the world's best athletes in 1990's

1991 World Jr Cross Country Champion ANDREW SAMBU Andrew Sambu from Masakta Hanang Manyara competed in the men's 5000 meters at the 1992 Summer Olympics Games in Barcelona Spain; Sambu is perhaps the most consistent Tanzania athlete who has competed internationally for more than three decades. He is undoubtedly the only Tanzanian to have crossed the world cross country finish line as number one, it was at the 1991 Antwerp World Cross Country Championships in Belgium as Gebrselassie of Ethiopia finished 8th place. ZAKARIA BARIE: The "Blast from the Past"

PHOTO | YOHANA CHALE Zakariah Barie is a retired Tanzanian long-distance runner who specialized in the 10,000 meters; he won the silver medal at the 1982 Commonwealth Games, finished thirteenth at the 1984 Olympic Games.  He also competed at the 1980 Olympic Games and the 1983 World Championships; he studied at the University of Texas at El Paso.
