Budapest hits 180 days-to-go mark until start of 2023 World Athletics Championships

More than 100,000 tickets have been sold for the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships, with the event now just 180 days away, it was revealed today. Hungarian Government Commissioner for the World Championships Ádám Schmidt was encouraged by the interest for the competition, with the 50,000 ticket sale mark coming in early December. "It is a great success and a good indication of the high expectations for the World Athletics Championships that in just over a month, many more people have registered to volunteer than will actually be able to participate," he said. "Volunteers are key, they will have a huge responsibility and much of the honour will be theirs, because they will also be the ones to thank if our dreams come true and make this the best World Athletics Championships ever." 2023 WORLD CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS RAMPED UP WITH LITTLE SUCCESS FOR TANZANIA: KENYA, ETHIOPIA & UGANDA TRIUMPH

Tanzania had a single team of four athletes making up a senior cotegory in which they placed 8 overoll. Josephat Joshua Gisemo resqued the team to hit top ten out of 46 countries that participated, GISEMO placed 28th overall in individual challenge. Others who accumulated the points are: INYASI SULLEY (46), FABIAN SULLE (52) and MATHAYO SAMHENDA (56). JACOP KIPLIMO of Uganda took the Championships tittle.

Cheptegei heads stacked men’s World Cross Country Championships field in Bathurst The entire men’s podium from the 2019 edition returns for the upcoming race in Australia, led by the Olympic 5000m champion Joshua Cheptegei. The Ugandan won the race in 2019 but will need to be at his best to overcome the challenge of compatriot Jacob Kiplimo and twice-winner Geoffrey Kamworor. Cheptegei is the current world record holder at both 5000m (12:35.36) and 10,000m (26:11.00) which were both set in 2020. He is also the reigning Olympic champion in the 5000m and won silver in the 10,000m at Tokyo 2020. The winner of the 10,000m at the last Olympics will also be present this weekend, as Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega prepares to race. Dar es Salaam.Tanzania’s national athletics team head coach, Dennis Malle, is optimistic that four runners set to compete in the World Cross Country Championship in Australia this weekend will do their best. The event is scheduled to take place on February 18 in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. Tanzania will field four runners namely Inyasi Sulle, Fabian Nelson, Mathayo Sumbi and Josephat Joshua who will compete in the 10km race. They are currently in intensive training in Dar es Salaam and expect to leave tomorrow to Australia ahead of the competition.
