TRIBUTE: 2024 Sokoine Marathon coming soon

Kassim Majaliwa (Prime Minister of The United Republic of Tanzania) officiated Sokoine Marathon held on April 6 2019 in Arusha   The year was 2013 when Sokoine Marathon was first introduced in Monduli (the birth and burial site) of the Late - Edward Moringe Sokoine - The former Prime Minister of The United Republic of Tanzania. The commemorative event met with turbulent shake-up during the outbreak of Corona Virus (Covid19) in which it had to pause.  Sokoine died in April 12 1984 in a tragic accident, this coming April of 2024 Tanzanians will mark forty years (40) since his departure, therefore the commemorative marathon will be held. ANTHONY MWINGEREZA: The Coach, the leader and the former World Class Athlete

Anthony Mwingereza is an active athletics coach in one of the most strategic institution in Tanzania, he is a former world class athlete who has represented Tanzania in the 1990's to early 2000. Mwingereza's most notable victories includes finishing 8th at 1992 Boston World Jr Cross Country Championships, 2nd at 1992 Abuja World Military Games Cross Country and 1st at 1993 World Military Cross Country Games held in The Netherlands. The signature event will take place on Memorial Day, Monday May 29/2023.   Daniel Komen, man who holds the unbreakable 3000m Flat World Record, 7:20:67 set 27 years ago When people are told to mention great athletes, they will mention, Kipchoge Keino, Haile Gebrselasie, Paul Tergat, Eliud Kipchoge, Kenenisa Bekele, and many other legends. But few will mention the great Daniel Komen. Komen is one of three runners in history to break all of the following marks: 3:30 for 1,500 meters, 7:30 for 3,000 meters and 13:00 for 5,000 meters. In 1996 between July 3 and September 7, a period of less than 70 days, Komen raced eleven times. Nine of those events were at distances between 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, including a two-mile. Komen won all nine races, setting world records in two and narrowly missing in a third. His average time in his four 3,000-meter “contests” was 7:26.75.
