IOC ratifies Russia-Belarus sanctions after Paris 2024 concerns

Amid outcry over the potential inclusion of Russian and Belarusian athletes at Paris 2024, the IOC has reiterated its stance on sanctions. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has reiterated it will stand by the sanctions imposed against Russia and Belarus after appearing to open the door for their inclusion at the Paris 2024 Games. The two nations are currently banned from Olympic competition following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year. But IOC statements last month appeared to clear a pathway for the inclusion of athletes from both countries to compete under a neutral flag. Now, however, the governing body has sought to clarify its position - in particular as a response to recent comments made by Stanislav Pozdnyakov, head of Russia’s Olympic Committee. Chepngetich dazzles at Kenyan Cross Country Championships

Ruth Chepngetich, the 2019 world marathon champion, produced two amazing runs at the Kenyan Cross Country Championships – a World Athletics Cross Country Tour Bronze event – to win a pair of titles within an hour at the Kenya Prisons Training College in Ruiru. Racing at the venue that was probably her training ground during her time in the Kenya Prisons Service, Chepngetich dominated the senior women’s 10km event, then anchored her team to victory in the mixed relay. Kenya held its trial event for the World Athletics Cross Country Championships Bathurst 23 in December, but today’s event will be used to select national runners for the Sirikwa Classic – a World Cross Country Tour Gold meeting – in Eldoret on 4 February. Within the first kilometre, Chepngetich – who led the world marathon list last year with 2:14:18, the second-fastest run in history – had stretched the senior women’s field to single file. The colorful event was presented by GIDABUDAY SPORTS TOURISM FOUNDATION in coordination with Arusha Regional Athletics Association. In the near future we hope to extend such a program to reach underprivileged athletes countrywide so to enable them to reach their dreams.

EDITION SARPCCO GAMES  1st. - 17th SEPTEMBER 2022 DAR ES SALAAM TANZANIA THE Prime Minister of Tanzania Kassim Majaliwa officially launched the Southern African Region Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization games at Uhuru stadium in Dar es Salaam. The 11th edition of SARPCCO games began in Dar es Salaam on September 4th this year and is scheduled to climax on September 17th at the same venue.     This year’s games involved more than 1500 sportsmen from the police forces of South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Comoros, DRC Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the host Tanzania. The SARPCCO games include football, netball, volleyball, darts, tennis, and athletics as well as chess for both men and women teams.

    Suleiman Nyambui Biography Suleiman Nyambui is a famous Marathon Runner, who was born on February 13, 1953 in Tanzania. Suleiman Nyambui (born February 13, 1953) is a former track athlete from Tanzania who specialized in various long-distance disciplines. Nyambui won the bronze medal at the 1978 All-Africa Games, the silver medal in 5000 metres at the 1980 Summer Olympics, and finished first at three consecutive marathons between 1987 and 1988. He holds multiple indoor national records of Tanzania in athletics. He attended UTEP from 1978 to 1982, where, as an older athlete (he was 29 when he graduated), he won four straight NCAA titles in the 10,000 meters — one of only five Division I men to ever accomplish such a feat. He also won three straight NCAA titles in the 5,000 meters while at UTEP and was the 1980 NCAA Cross Country champion. The United Nations have long recognized, advocated for and supported the important contribu tions of sport to development and peace, with a significant record of General Assembly and Human Rights Council resolutions, UN treaties, Secretary-General’s reports and other guiding documents highlighting the unique potential of sport. The processes and milestones which led to the historic adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2015 were followed by the Sport for Development and Peace community with strong interest and a commitment to continue using sport as a unique tool to support this new global plan of action. As a result of joint efforts, particularly including UN Member States’ support to recognize the contribution of sport to the SDGs, Heads of State and Government and High Representatives declared in the Political Declaration for the new Agenda:     Sport is also an important enabler of sustainable development.
