“He’s a flat out beast,” says freshman, Axel Bravo who does not know Sydney Gidabuday personally; but is aware of what he can do when Sydney laces up his running shoes. Junior, Jonathon Chavez, stated that “Sydney’s an inspiring runner at school whom all the runners here should look up to.” People close to him and even those who scarcely know him would not doubt his strive to be the very best.

Gidabuday was born in Riverside, California on August 21st to a family hailing from Arusha, Tanzania. At the age of three, Sydney began to run little by little; and then 10 years later, he participated his in first official race placing seventh out of several hundred runners. Thus, his motivation and hunger began.

So how exactly does Gidabuday maintain his excellent form? Before any race begins, a traditional meal of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a banana and his lucky Hot Cheetos Fries fill his stomach. After his food satisfies him, a warm up consisting of a 10 minute jog, short strides and plenty of stretches allows Sydney to do his best.

While others take breaks from running,Gidabuday breaks records. Gidabuday dedicates plenty of his leisure time to running;however, still makes room for his studies. When cross country season begins, school and running make up nearly all of his time.
Gidabuday plans to attend junior college first then transfer out to a four year school none are interested in his achievements. A state championship and future Olympic entry urge Sydney beyond standard limits; and he has demonstrated to push for the immense challenge.

Cross country coach, Thom Confer has noted Gidabuday’s work ethic and effort. Confer says Gidabuday “is extremely dedicated with the desire to be very successful”. He also noted that the team is relying on him. The team works very hard everyday and they will not disappoint the school or Sydney. Confer definitely sees Sydney becoming as big as he wants to be.
The first league meet of the cross country season takes place on October 2nd. Gidabuday will be able to showcase why he’s El Mo’s athlete of the month as well as his road to legendary status at this school.
