President Kikwete Receives World Cup in Mwanza Tanzania

"I would like to inform you that President Jakaya Kikwete will postpone
his Simiyu tour and he will be here tomorrow (today) to receive the World Cup
trophy," he said.
"On behalf of Mwanza region, I thank him very much for accepting our
request and rescheduling his timetable of Simiyu region tour that has made
possible the trophy to be received in our region for the first time in
history," he added.
According to Ndikilo, the World Cup Trophy will arrive at Mwanza Airport at
10.00 am from Nairobi, Kenya and will be displayed here until 11.00am when it
will be taken under tight security to CCM Kirumba Stadium where it will be
unveiled to football fans and the public.
"The CCM Kirumba Stadium doors will be open from 9.00am and let me urge
Mwanza residents and football fans to come in big numbers so that we can all
witness this historic event which will be graced by our president," he
said, adding that there will be no entrance fee at the stadium.
Ndikilo, however, thanked Mwanza Regional Coca-Cola Director Christopher
Gachuma for communicating with FIFA and enabling the trophy to be witnessed in
Mwanza.
"We really thank Gachuma and his Coca Cola colleagues very much for
making this historic event to be successful and put our region on the world
soccer map," he said, adding that it is his hope that the World Cup Trophy
will be received in peace and serenity.
Getachew said Coca-Cola Company, who are the World Cup main sponsor, are
very pleased to bring the trophy to Mwanza where there is a big number of
civilized soccer fans. He said Coca-Cola is very grateful to President Kikwete
for his decision to change his very busy schedule and agree to receive the
trophy in Mwanza.
"We are very grateful to the President for agreeing to receive the
trophy here in Mwanza ... we also thank the government for making the trophy's
visit to Mwanza possible," Getachew said. He said from Mwanza the trophy
will be flown to Dar es Salaam where a gala dinner will be hosted in its honour
at Serena Hotel this evening.
The trophy will be displayed at the National Stadium from 9.00am to 6.00pm
tomorrow. This is the third time the World Cup Trophy visits Tanzania after
2006 and 2009.
