A new tennis academy has been
established at Kijitonyama in Kinondoni with the aim of improving the sport
from grassroots level.
The academy, known as Kijitonyama Tennis Academy, will use the courts available at the former Postal College along Bagamoyo Road in Kinondoni.
In an interview yesterday, head coach of the academy Musa Haruna said currently 50 young players are training at the academy, saying the aim is to see more young players playing the game.
He named the academy coaches as Ismail Saidi, Francis Simon, Rabbi Hassani, Hassani Kassimu and himself.
“The academy was formed after noting that there are many youngsters who are interested in playing the game of tennis, but they don’t have a proper place to train.
We hope with the experience of teachers we have here at the academy many players will benefit,” he said.
Haruna said the main aim of the club is to nurture and develop young players to become top tennis players in the future.
He said soon they will start organizing tournaments for the academy players, saying this will help to expose them to playing competitive games.
“Currently we do not have all the needed equipments and facilities for the development of tennis in young players, but we hope to inspire them to become top future players in the future,” he said.
