Tennis teenagers to compete next month
Kijitonyama Tennis Academy |
One of the event’s organisers Inger Njau said players expected to
are from Arusha ICC, Morogoro Gymkhana, Bahari Beach, Mkuranga, Dar es
Salaam Gymkhana and hosts.
‘The academy has organised a tournament for junior players next
month, this will be the first time the academy is hosting a tournament,
we have organised this so that we can give our players the opportunity
to expose their talents,’ she said.
The academy has been formed with the objective of improving tennis
in the country having onboard coaches Ismail Saidi, Francis Simon,
Rabbi Hassan, Hassan Kassim and Musa Haruna.
Head coach of the academy Haruna recently said it has been formed
after noting that there are many youngsters who are interested in
playing the game , but don’t have a proper place to train.
He said the main aim of the club is to nurture and develop young players to become top tennis players in the future.
The establishment of the academy will provide an alternative to
junior tennis players who could not access Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club
(DGC) as the facility is open to members and their children who are
below the age of 18 only.
The joining formalities at DGC deny playing opportunity to many
young players and this resulted into them losing interest in the game,
this was also coupled with lack of tournament at the facility.
The tennis governing body in the country, TTA uses the DGC as their main venue for most of tournaments.
