Tanzania is set to field a team at the Fina World Swimming Championship that will take place in Doha, Qatar in December.

Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) secretary general Noel Kiunsi told The Citizen yesterday that, the body has already embarked on preparations for the world showpiece.
According to Kiunsi, TSA will organise a swimming championship (Tanzania Open) on October 11 from which a coaching panel will select swimmers for the Doha event. “We will definitely field a team at the Doha event and we are already looking at how we can get the best swimmers who can make the nation proud,” he said.

Kiunsi added: “We expect to hold the national competition in October where athletes from all clubs will battle it out. I am confident that our coaches will make a good selection.”
The official said the Fina World Swimming Championship will see about 900 swimmers compete for 138 medals in Doha. The championship will consist of 46 events, 34 of which are individual and 12 relays.

Kiunsi disclosed that the Fina in collaboration with the Organising Committee of the Doha 2014 will organise a youth training programme that will take place during the championship.
The objective of the training is to give an opportunity to standout swimmers from each Fina affiliate member countries to experience the world championship and get inspiration from top athletes.
About 350 swimmers, aged between 14 and 16, will participate in the programme at Hamad Aquatic Centre in the Aspire Zone.
