Swimming coaches attend course in US

Eight Tanzanian swimming coaches are in Florida attending ten-day training courtesy of American Swimming Coaches’ Association (ASCA).

Tanzania Swimming Coaches Association (TSCA) secretary general Amina Mfaume, who spoke from US, said the coaches left the country last Friday and they are currently in Florida.

She said the training is going on very well and they are learning a lot that will help them to develop the game once they come back home.

Mfaume thanked the ASCA for the training opportunity saying it will help to improve swimming standards in the country, saying the game in the USA is a serious one.

"We are here on ten days training. The days we have been here we have learnt a lot of things, including swimmers nutrition and health. We have also visited some of their swimming facilities. I hope that the training will help to improve swimming in Tanzania,"she said.

She named the coaches as   Yasin Shabani, Diamond Mwabange, Geoffrey Kimimba, Alexander Mwaipasi, Zuberi Likoko, Denis Sizya, Moses Ntelema and herself.

Meanwhile, Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) assistant secretary general Ramadan Namkomveka said the training in US will help to improve the game at home.

He said for the game to develop there is a need to have qualified coaches who are well versed with the new training skills of the sport.

"Yes, they left on Friday and are expected back on October 21. This is one of the best trainings. You know US is among the five top ranked swimming countries in the world. For sure, the coaches will learn many things which will develop the game in Tanzania,"he said.

Namkoveka said he is the beneficiary of the training as he with other ten Tanzanian coaches attended similar training last year.
