'Azam defence unsettled'
Azam FC coach Joseph Omog |
In an interview with the Guardian the coach said that due to the signing of new defender Serge Pascal Wawa from Ivory Coast it needs time for other defenders to be able to play with him.
Omog said so after his team was thrown out in ongoing Mapinduzi Cup by Mtibwa Sugar in the quarter final on Thursday.
Three central defenders Said Morad, Aggrey Moris and David Mwatika were trying to cope with the new defender and that is what cost the team.
“We are still looking for someone who will play with Wawa in central defending. We tried Moris and at another time Mwatika but still there is a lot of mistakes occurring between them. I am still working on it and they will cope with each other soon.
“We want to have a strong team as we want to retain our league title and we have a tough tournament toward us when starting in the African Champion League,” he elaborated.
In the last league match against Young Africans SC, the team played well but there were personal mistakes as goalkeeper Mwadini Ally was often in the game and at some moments played poorly.
In the same match Yanga striker Simon Msuva scored a free header due to poor communication between the goalkeeper and two central defenders which gave Yanga two goals before John Bocco drew out a goal for Azam.
In the ongoing Mapinduzi Cup tourney Azam played KCCA of Kampala whereby the Chamazi-based giants led by two goals but soon the visitors sewed off both goals following some mistakes.
On the other hand Omog affirmed that he is satisfied by the performance his team showed in the Mapinduzi Cup though it was removed by Mtibwa Sugar, insisting that the Chamazi side just ran over bad luck.
“It was a matter of luck there. We played well and players showed their commitment although Mtibwa won by penalties.
“We are now focusing on the league and the African Champions League as we are using this tournament as part of our training,” the Cameroonian tactician added.
