AT keen on Rio Olympics prep
Both AT president Anthony Mtaka and Hanang Sports Club founder
Wilhelm Gidabuday confirmed the deal which is expected to step up
preparations of athletes for the Olympics.
In an interview Mtaka said under the pact the two organisations
will work together in soliciting and raising funds to enable athletes’
preparations.
“This has been reached to complement our ever growing sponsorship
challenges. Doors are open to companies, individuals and organisations
to join in sponsorship while hoping in turn to win medals and improve
athletes’ performance”, he said.
He said the pact will also help to market Olympics in the country
as plans are underway to have an international marketing film which will
raise athletics profiles.
Mtaka could not disclose amount of money expected to be raised from
the pact, saying AT executive committee meeting to be held in Dar es
Salaam tomorrow will disclose the sum. The AT president said the only way for the country to perform well at the next year’s Olympics is early preparations.
He said the money raised will help AT to organise athletes’ camp at the end of September.
Gidabuday said Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) is aware of the
pact. TOC secretary Filbert Bayi could not be reached for comment.
Gidabuday said plans are underway to organise a fund raising walk from Ujiji to Dar es Salaam.
He also said as part of its fundraising strategy a marketing film
will be on hire to create documentaries, videos for popular sports
personalities and other tourist attraction areas to post them on you
tube and other popular forums.
“This time around, we are very serious on preparations for the
Olympics; we want to make sure that our team is well prepared before the
Games. We will use any means available to see that next year Tanzania
athletes are coming home with medals”, he said.
