Unheraled Dar athlete sparkles in China races

Emanuel Giniki in one of his domestic victories Tanzania long distance runner Emanuel Giniki beat a field of 18,000 competitors to win this year’s Kunming Plateau International half marathon held in China last Sunday.   Athletics Tanzania’s (AT) acting secretary general Ombeni Zavala confirmed the development yesterday. She said Giniki clocked one hour, four minutes and 2 seconds, beating the previous event’s record.   However, Zavala said the Kunming race was not a qualifying event for Rio Olympics and Giniki and his fellow countryman Nathalia Elsante will compete at this weekend’s Gyung Marathon which is an Olympic qualifier.   “Our two athletes are in China to seek Rio Olympics qualifications, we hope they will qualify, Giniki has just won the Kunming half Marathon which was held in China last week”, she said.   She also disclosed that Allophone Felix will compete at this year’s Lake Biwa Marathon in Japan.   The AT official said Felix wh

Emanuel Gisamoda Giniki from Tanzania won the men's title at Kunming Plateau Half Marathon with a time of 1 hour 4 minutes and 2 seconds while Rebecca Chesir from Kenya won the women's championship. Kunming Plateau Half Marathon is increasingly becoming popular across China with tens of thousands of people practicing and joining the event every year. China is also home to dozens of other International Marathons including the ones in Beijing, Xiamen and Shanghai.

Long distance runners for Moshi races

Mary Naali in one of her local runs With Kilimanjaro Marathon registration in progress, nine long distance runners have confirmed to feature in the event to be held on February 28 in Moshi.   The event’s director, John Bayo named the athletes as Fabian Joseph, Alphonce Felix, Reginald Lucian, Gabriel Gerald, Angelina Daniel, Magedelina Chirispine, Banuelia Brighton, Fabiola William and Rebeka Kavina.   Joseph, Felix and Gerald are at the national team’s camp in Siha district to gear up for the Olympic Games in Brazil. “These are those who have confirmed and we are sure there are some who will join the fray later”, he said.    He said enthusiasm for the athletes has been high on the grounds among others that the event in Moshi will also be used as a qualifier berth for the Olympics.   He urged all athletes to abide by the regulations and avoid being faulted at the end of the race.    “We must for example conduct doping tests to satisfy ourselves that th

T&F | Gidabuday Records Fastest NCAA DII Time In 5000 Meter Run At Husky Classic SEATTLE (February 12, 2016) – With a time of 13:44.31, Sydney Gidabuday ran to a third place finish in the 5000 meter run on Day One of the Husky Classic. Gidabuday's remarkable time now ranks first in the nation and serves as an automatic qualifying mark. He holds a 13-second edge over the second fastest time amongst all competitors at the NCAA Division II level. Shockingly enough, it served as Gidabuday's first-ever 5000 meter appearance during his ASU career. The freshman now holds the nation's top time in both the 3000 meter run and 5000 meter run. Also competing in the men's 5000 meter run were Dominic Cabada , Brian Glassey , Sean Fontana , Lucio Ramirez , and Jackson Sayler . Rio Olympics preps in disarray

Tanzania Athletes in competition Tanzania Olympics Committee (TOC) says it has no money to organise a camp for athletes ahead of the Brazil Olympics. Speaking yesterday, TOC secretary general Filbert Bayi said the committee has communicated the development to sports associations whose athletes will compete at the Rio Games. He said TOC has asked the sports associations to source for their own money and organise camping to prepare for the Games. This is a big blow to financially constrained sports associations as they depend on TOC to organise camping for 30 days and another one or two weeks in the Olympic Games host nation. The camp in host nation helps athletes to acclimatise with the weather and in most cases it is done at the village where the team camps.  “For now we don’t have money to organise a local camp and even that of one week in the  Olympics host nation, we have communicated to all sports associations on this development, unless some miracle happe
