TERRIBLE ACCIDENT CLAIMS ANOTHER LIFE IN ATHLETICS FRATERNITY

FRANCIS JOHN - the outstanding athletics Coach has died following the terrible accident as he was returning to Arusha from Dar es Salaam. "He went to Dar es Salaam for burial service of his sister, on his way back to Arusha his car got an accident at (Maji ya Chai) area at midnight of April 22/2023" a person familiar with the incident said. Along with two other family members were rushed to  NSK Hospital in Arusha, he was immediately transferred to KCMC Moshi where he was announced dead at 19Hrs the same day. Coach Francis John is a retired civil servant from Tanzania Armed Forces and former President of Athletics Tanzania. He was a great Coach who produced many great Athletes including the current star Alphonce Felix Simbu .   His departure comes just over a week after the passing of Kilimanjaro Marathon Race Director John Bayo .   Zakayo Malekwa's Table of Medals that include All African Games and 1982 Commonwealth Games   Zakayo Malekwa (born on February 2, 1951) is a retired track and field athlete from Manyara Tanzania; he competed in the men's javelin throw event during his career. Rev. Zakayo Malekwa He represented Tanzania at three consecutive Summer Olympics; starting in 1980 Moscow where he set his best Olympic result by finishing in 16th place in the overall-rankings. He continued with 1984 Los Angeles and 1988 Seoul Olympics. Double delight for Kenya as Evans Chebet and Hellen Obiri win men’s and women’s Boston Marathon races

  Kenya's Evans Chebet and Hellen Obiri won the men's and women's division of the Boston Marathon ( Charles Krupa/AP) CNN  — There was double delight for Kenya at the 2023 Boston Marathon as Evans Chebet and Hellen Obiri won the men’s and women’s races respectively. Chebet claimed his second consecutive Boston Marathon – the first man to defend his title since Robert Cheruiyot did so in 2008 – in an unofficial time of two hours, five minutes and 54 seconds, while Obiri took the honors in only her second official marathon.  Tanzanian Gabriel Geay came in second, finishing in 2:06:04, while Kenyan Benson Kipruto placed third in 2:06:06.  More than 30,000 athletes from all 50 states and more than 100 countries participated in the famed 26.2-mile course, starting in rural Hopkinton and finishing on Boylston Street. ...

After his mother died, he was raised by his stepmother because his father had nine wives, including his deceased mother. "I went through a very painful life in the hands of my stepmothers, I was denied my basic rights, I had to herd cows; even when it was time to start school, I was denied going to school while my other age mates were studying" The act of being deprived of studying hurt him a lot, and when he was in the fields he moved the cows near the school so that he could hear his colleagues studying and he could learn. OBITUARY: John Bayo of Kilimanjaro Marathon has passed away

  The late - JOHN BAYO often referring himself as "Faru John" It has been a sad day to athletics fraternity to hear the death of John Gilbert Bayo, Mr. Bayo has been one of the most known marathon director within Tanzania. He started with Mt Meru International Marathon in the 1980’s and Kilimanjaro Marathon till his passing early today. He began his sports career as a Volleyball Player till mid 1980’s when he joined Swedish Program (Sports for All) as a translator which later took him to Gothenburg Sweden for further athletics learning and that’s when Bayo became full athletics coach and manager. Bayo started feeling ill early last year and got his kidney removed that lead to discovery of cancer that ended his life.
