Glasgow: Youngest ever female Commonwealth Games gold medalist fails drug test

Image
A 16-year-old Nigerian weightlifter failed a doping test after becoming the youngest ever female to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal in the sport, organizers said Tuesday. Chika Amalaha has been provisionally suspended from the Glasgow Games after testing positive for diuretics and masking agents after winning the 53-kilogram (117-pound) division last Friday. Amalaha’s “A” sample contained amiloride and hydrochlorothiazide, which are both banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency. Amalaha asked for the backup “B” sample to be tested, which will happen in London on Wednesday. Amalaha would be stripped of the gold medal if the second sample also comes back positive. WADA is set to investigate how someone so young had access to banned substances. “I am rather saddened and disappointed this has happened to a 16-year-old,” WADA President Craig Reedie told The Associated Press. “We will need to see if the ‘B’ sample matches the ‘A.’ Then if it does the girl will be removed from th

Hata hivyo nampa pongezi hili 'Thanks BUT no thanks Hon. &

Akhwari raps AT for lousy Games preps

Image
John Stephen Akhwari Athletics legend John Stephen Akhwari has declared that Tanzania is not in a position to get a medal in the on going Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.   Akhwari, who hails from Manyara, has been a symbol for the Olympic Movement after he hit the headlines in the Mexico City Games in 1968 after suffering injury and hobbled with pain, finishing last in the marathon, well after most people had left the stadium but a few spectators and some cameramen.   Akhwari said in an interview at his Manyara home that none of the athletes is in a position to win a medal as the athletes representing the country at the Glasgow Games were not drilled enough by Athletes Tanzania (AT) for the competition.   He said that for an athlete to get a medal in major competitions such as the Olympics and Commonwealth Games, such athlete has to be prepared thoroughly from grassroots to upper levels.    “It’s surprising that AT stage

Dwayne Johnson Steps Out with Girlfriend at 'Hercules' Premiere

Dwayne Johnson AKA The Rock Actor and ex-pro wrestler Dwayne Johnson knows a thing or two about making a splashy entrance. And he certainly didn’t disappoint when he showed up at last night’s Los Angeles premiere of 'Hercules ,' which took place at the TLC Chinese Theater in Hollywood.  Though the event featured several big-name guests — including Mariah Carey, Eddie Murphy and girlfriend Paige Butcher, and Kylie Minogue — all eyes were on the 42-year old Johnson as he stepped out on the red carpet with his girlfriend, Lauren Hashian.  The two have been dating for several years, reportedly after the then-married actor met the Massachusetts native while filming his 2007 sports-comedy 'The Game Plan.' That relationship, some speculate, led to Johnson’s 2008 divorce from wife Dany Garcia, with whom Johnson has a 12-year-old daughter, Simone. That divorce,  Johnson told 'The Hollywood Reporter' earlier this year; sent the actor into a deep depressio
